To celebrate the 60th anniversary of D-Day in Normandy, Le Véritable Cherbourg created a unique model that was given as a gift to the then-statesmen and that is now sought after by avid collectors. Embroidered onto a beautiful poplin polycotton canopy, the emblem of this great event evokes as follows from top to bottom: Normandie (Normandy) of course; the number 60, the zero of which encircles the geographical area where the ally forces deployed, the latter area is coloured in green representing the Norman bocage and surrounded by red to represent coastal danger; the white circle materialises the concentration of the task forces at Z point, the white arrows their deployment towards the beaches that we now see so peaceful and the day and year of this memorable feat of arms. The lot is underlined by a cordage which symbolises at the same time the relationship between the soldiers of the three ally armies, the fleet which transported the troops as well the sea swell and waves that guided them towards the Norman coasts. Finally, the symbolism of Operation Neptune ends with the emblem of Le Véritable Cherbourg who, once again, wished to pay tribute to those who “reconquered” freedom.
