Our story

Coming from a family of leather manufacturers from father to son since 1800 in Cherbourg, Jean-Pierre Yvon created and registered the brand "Le Véritable Cherbourg" in 1986. Today, it is taken over by his son Charles and has become " Le Parapluie de Cherbourg " since March 2020.

Leather Factories

The Yvon leather factories are setting up in Cherbourg. From father to son, the family tanneries collect prizes and medals from national competitions and supply the biggest brands.

The Umbrellas of Cherbourg

Filming of Jacques Demy's "The Umbrellas of Cherbourg." It was the first film entirely sung and filmed in the streets of Cherbourg. This love story, starring Catherine Deneuve, won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 1964. The people of Cherbourg, enthusiastic during filming, became somewhat gloomy following the publicity the film generated for their city. Cherbourg then became famous for its bad weather.

The Real Cherbourg

Twenty-three years after this work, Jean-Pierre Yvon, a photographer based in Paris and working internationally, returned to his "land of secret gardens," the Cotentin peninsula, and restored the reputation of his city. In 1986, he created and registered the brand "Le Véritable Cherbourg" (The Genuine Cherbourg). Handmade with French expertise, Le Véritable Cherbourg is wind tunnel tested to ensure its durability while preserving its beauty.

Japan

Le Véritable Cherbourg has gone global and met with Crown Prince Hiro Nomya Sama of Japan. This honor was bestowed upon French fashion designers and manufacturers at the international Trade Fair (Art de Vivre) in Tokyo. The brand is expanding its reach internationally and captivating a wide audience with the elegance of its products.

The ParaPactum

Creation of the ParaPactum brand. Designed to ensure the protection of VIPs and VIPs, the ParaPactum is unparalleled worldwide. Patented, it is conceived as a high-performance sailboat. While its materials and architecture are virtually indestructible, its strength is subtly concealed within the elegance of its lines. Brand expansion

Charles Yvon, son of Jean-Pierre Yvon, has been immersed in the family business his entire life. He initially worked as an innovative developer before taking over the reins in July 2018. With a scientific background, Charles Yvon then studied management at E2SE in Caen before attending the prestigious business school EM Grenoble. Barely having taken the helm of Véritable Cherbourg, Charles Yvon is already developing the brand in France and internationally. He aims to increase the number of retailers from 35 to 100 by the end of 2019. Always brimming with ideas, Charles continues to revitalize the brand image through new collaborations with prestigious companies. Committed to a meaningful "Made in France" approach and to supporting the local economy, the young entrepreneur is demonstrating a desire to forge closer relationships with his suppliers.
