Our history

Coming from a family of manufacturers of the leather from father to son since 1800 in Cherbourg, Jean-Pierre Yvon created and deposited the brand "Le Véné Cherbourg" in 1986. Today, it is taken up by her son Charles and became " Le Parapluie de Cherbourg " since March 2020.

Leathers

The Yvon leather factories settle in Cherbourg. From father to son, family tanneries collect prices and medals for national competitions and provide the biggest brands.

Cherbourg umbrellas

Filming of Jacques Demy's film, "The Umbrellas of Cherbourg". It is the first film entirely sung and filmed in the streets of Cherbourg. This love story played by Catherine Deneuve, receives the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Festival in 1964. The Cherbourgers, enthusiastic during the shooting, become a little gloomy following the advertisement made by the film in their city. It then becomes famous for its bad weather.

The real cherbourg

Twenty-three years after this work, Jean-Pierre Yvon, photographer in Paris and around the world, returns to his "country of secret gardens", Le Cotentin and readies the coat of arms of his city. In 1986, he created and filed the brand "Le Véné Cherbourg". Made by hand with French know-how, the real Cherbourg is tested in a blower in order to validate its resistance while preserving its beauty.

Japan

The real Cherbourg is exported and meets the crown prince of Japan Hiro Nomya Sama. He thus honors creators and manufacturers of French fashion at the Trade Fair International Fair (Art of Living), in Tokyo. The brand deploys its models internationally and seduces a large audience thanks to the elegance of its products.

The parapactum

Creation of the Parapactum brand. To ensure the protection of VIPs and personalities, the parapactum is without equivalence in the world. Patented, it is designed as a high performance sailboat. If the materials that compose it and its architecture are in all trials, it hides its strength with finesse in the elegance of its lines. Indeed, extreme tests are carried out: in blows by the Aerotechnical Institute of Saint-Cyr-l'Ecole du CNAM, with dogs (25 kg launched at 35 km/h) and various bruising objects launched at full power ...

Our trophies

Many trophies have been given to True Cherbourg such as: Inpi trophy, awarded winner to congratulate the skills, knowledge and the universe of an innovation; Made in France, award issued to reward a product manufactured in France Stars and Crafts, a trophy that congratulates the excellence of an artisanal innovation. The real Cherbourg receives the quality tourism label. It is issued by the State in order to validate the quality of the services offered by a professional, in the tourism sector. These honorable prices prove the brand's excellence as well as its unique know-how. In addition, customs validates its French manufacturing: it receives the approved exporter number.

Brand expansion

Charles Yvon, son of Jean-Pierre Yvon, has always been bathed in the family business. He first invests in it as an innovative developer before taking the direction in July 2018. With a scientific background, Charles Yvon then trained in management at the E2SE in Caen and then joined the large business school EM Grenoble. No sooner has he resumed the reins of the real Cherbourg, Charles Yvon develops the brand in France and at export. From 35 resellers, he wants to increase to 100 by the end of 2019. Always abundant with ideas, Charles continues to energize the brand image thanks to new collaborations with prestigious houses. For a made in France which makes sense but also to bring the local economy to life, the young entrepreneur marks the desire to get closer to his suppliers.
