Windproof umbrellas

Windproof umbrella: your ally to brave bad weather

Rain or shine, enjoy your outdoor activities with an essential accessory: an umbrella resistant to strong winds, made in Cherbourg-en-Cotentin with extremely robust materials.

Which of our umbrellas is windproof?

The Antibourrasque, tested at 155 km/h

The Antibourrasque is the strongest umbrella in the world. Subjected to wind tunnel conditions of up to 155 km/h, this accessory doesn't break. As its name suggests, it's a storm-proof umbrella designed for extreme conditions: storms, gusts… Nothing can withstand it.
This wind-resistant umbrella owes its robustness to its frame. It's made of fiberglass, a material that bends without breaking. The Antibourrasque is handcrafted with a straight or curved wooden handle, and its canopy is available in 19 taffeta colors.

Le Sport, tested at 140 km/h

Le Sport features automatic opening and manual closing. You can quickly unfold it in the rain, during hikes, fishing trips, and sports activities.
At the top of its galvanized steel mast is a set of fiberglass ribs. With this robust frame, le Sport withstands winds of up to 140 km/h during wind tunnel testing.

The design of this automatic windproof umbrella allows it to match any outdoor outfit. Le Sport features a taffeta canopy, a straight or curved handle, and hardware with ruthenium finishes.

Le Golf, le Pébroque and le Palace, tested at 138 km/h

The Antibourrasque and le Sport are our most wind-resistant umbrellas. The other models in our collection are equally impressive! They are all wind tunnel tested and offer excellent resistance to gusts and gales.
Le Golf features a straight beechwood handle and a large canopy that can shelter two people. It has a galvanized steel shaft and solid carbon steel ribs, just like le Palace.
Le Pébroque also has carbon steel ribs, but we've given it a beechwood shaft. Available in 10 elegant colors, it combines luxury and durability.
These three robust umbrellas can withstand winds of up to 138 km/h.

How are our umbrellas tested for wind resistance?

Wind tunnel tests

For each of our windproof umbrellas, we test its wind resistance in the laboratory, in a wind tunnel.

During these performance tests, we subject the umbrella to winds of progressive intensity. We observe the reactions of the accessory, in particular its sail and the frame. We check that the ribs do not break, and that the mast remains straight.

In each individual product sheet, we indicate the maximum wind speed tolerated by the anti-gust umbrella, without bending or breaking. This way, you know what weather conditions your Cherbourg Umbrella can withstand.

Solidity guaranteed by our know-how

Wind tunnel tests show that our umbrellas are extremely wind resistant, even to violent gusts.

We owe the reliability of our windproof and gust-proof umbrellas to the high quality of the materials used. These elements are assembled by hand, by a small team of women and men, in our workshop in the heart of Cherbourg city center.

From cutting the canvas to checking the finished product, including sewing the panels and fixing the ribs to the canvas, around forty steps are necessary to make a wind-resistant umbrella, like the Cherbourg.
